Hey All
Ok, so recently I have been turning off my 'Screen-Savor' function and just doing the 'Turn off Monitor' after x-amount of minutes.

So that got me wondering about using Windows built in Power scheme, you know the one that can be found under Display-Properties/Screen saver/Power-Tab

Its set up like this:

Turn Off Monitor ----- [after XXX amount of minutes]

Turn Off HDDs ----- [after XXX amount of minutes]

System Standby ---- [after XXX amount of minutes]

The reason that I was wondering about this is because since its better to NOT turn of your system everyday I was thinking about actually trying this function out.

So if I was to 'turn off the HDDs' does sthat mean that Windows actually shuts down completely?

Like would I have to worry about my Firewall not being usable??? and would I be susceptible to an attack?

Also, if I activated the 'System Standby' does that turn everything off and if so do I just move the mouse or hit the keyboard to come out of 'System Standby' mode??

Thanks,

Regards,
CA

Turn Off HDDs does just that... turns em off (spins them down). But if a program needs access to it after its spun down it will spin back up. System Standby puts your computer in standby (either S1(POS) or S3(STR) depending on what you have set in bios). I always use STR since it turns EVERYTHING off except the ram... and all you have to do is come by and hit the power button and boom, i'm back in 5 seconds. POS as i understand it, will turn off the monitor and spin the HDDs down, but everything else is still running (cpu, cpu fan, case fans, etc).
