A Question About Storage Spaces.

I have windows 7 X64 Ultimate installed on my PC, I have 4X3TB WD Green drives running in Storage Spaces mode that are connected using the onboard SATA ports. I have a bunch of family photos & videos on these HDD's that I don't want to loose as well as some financial docs.

I was thinking of storing those 4 HDDs in my relatives house. If I keep ONE of those HDD's, and give them the remaining 3; would it be possible to re-build/extract any files using only 3 out of the 4 HDDs? Not even files list..etc?

I do have a full backup in my HTPC.

Thanks!

Storage spaces is only available starting with Windows 8.

You're using Disk Extender, I think it's called.

They are different.

But, in any case, without any knowledge on how you configured the drives, the answer is no.

Yes, it's showing up as spanned under disk management with a total space of 12TB. I believe it's the same thing as Storage Spaces, no?

So if I remove a single HDD from the pool, the remaining 3 can't show / list the files, correct? The forth HDD has to come online as well to show all the files? Can the files be retrieved if 1 of the 4 HDDs is missing?

What if I decided to reinstall windows 7, would that affect the 4X3TB spanned volume? Can I upgrade to windows 8.1 or 10 if I wanted to without loosing all my files on those drives?

They are different.

Not sure what else there is to say on the matter.

If you want a slightly more detailed answer, they are quite similar, but different enough that the distinction must be made.

As for your more specific questions in that post, it's like ketchup79 said. You are simply not providing enough information.
