A question about seagate HDDs

Ever since seagate bought Maxtor, I have heard about alot of problems with seagate's LARGER capacity drives, due to there use of remaning maxtor parts/drives. does anyone have any information about this. Does it include 250Gig drives or highor? any info would be great.

I also have a question as to weather there is a program or utility to check a hard drive to tell what kind of condition it is in. I have a WD 120Gb drive that has some weird noises and I wanted to see if was ok.

Hmm...That's interesting considering the 250 is only 15 dollars less then the 320...I might stick with 250 if the 250< have the problem

I have heard/experienced problems with the 7200.8 and the 7200.9 but never the 7200.10
