A question about ram, a dvd burner, and a monitor

Before I begin im Canadian so please dont recommend anything from american sites as duty kills me.

1) Im building a computer and for x-mas I got a 512 mb DDR400 Kingston memory.... now I want to buy at least 1 more 512 (Possibly a 1gig if I can find a good deal) and noticed this boxingday sale at ncix.com, can I mix this memory with the kingston and if so should I purchase this or should I get something different????

2) Is this Dvd Burner a good deal..... ? and is it a good quality burner?
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=16655&promoid=1065

3) I heard TY is the best dvd burning media, is this a good deal (I usually buy memorex for 15$ for 50 memorex/sony??

4) Can anyone recommend me a 17" (or 19" if the deal is there) LCD for under or very close to 300$ Canadian??? Heres the best deal I found.....

Now I know I have listed only ncix.com stuff but thats because I bought there before and have been very pleased with their service. However, if someone knows a better deal from a reputable site please let me know.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and respond. All and any suggestions are welcomed and highly appreciated.

Merry Christmas!

1) Should work fine. For dual channel use you might (or might not) need to manually set the timing to the slowest of the 2 sticks.

2) I have not seen anything good or bad, try www.CDFreaks.com. NEC 3550 and Benq 1640 are the models usually recommended here

3) Yes TY is good media, I'd buy it over memorex at the same price.

4) I'm partial to 4:3 monitors myself instead of widescreen since games don't require special tweaks. In the 17" size the Samsung 740N looks promising, but you should probably look for reviews at places like TomsHardware.com.

Also decide if you want an excellent 17" or a mediocre 19" given your desired price.

Another question for you guys, I work in electronics so I know at a certain time of the years certain things drop in price..... ie Sterios in early spring.... is it like the for computer monitors???? Should I wait and jus use my old (5 year old) monitor and deal with it until I find a good deal. ????

one other thing I forgot to ask, if i am only going to buy 1 more piece of memory for the time being does it make a huge difference going from 2 512mb or 1 512 and 1 gig.....?

Merry Christmas to you also 😀

There is a slight performance loss using 1 GB + 512 since you won't be in dual channel, but you have that now and won't lose any more speed.

Having 1.5 GB instead of 1.0 will also help a lot more in some games than the tiny memory speed boost from dual channel would.

Monitor prices drop 2-3 times a year as new models are introduced but I don't know of any specific dates. If your CRT is still working fine you might as well wait, especially since your 6600GT will deliver 1024x768 at best for many new games.
