A question about Plasma HDTV

Hi, guys, I am currently in the market for a HDTV plasma monitor.
I found something very strange.
Some HDTV plasma have a native resolution of 1024x768, however the screen is 16:9 format.
How could it be? is it true in this case the pixels are rectangle?
