A Question about Office Upgrade

Amused

Elite Member
I have an old Office 97 disk that I've used on my old computer. I now have a new computer and want to buy the Office XP upgrade. Can I do a clean install of Office on the new computer using the XP upgrade disk? How can I make it verify that I have Office 97 without installing Office 97? Is that possible?

<edit> check the software page, like on amazon, to see what the requirements are. I am pretty sure that 97 is too old to qualify for the upgrade option. Sorry...

MS:

You are eligible to upgrade if you are a licensed user of one of these products: Office Premium, Professional, Small Business, Standard, Developer, and Value Added Reseller (VAR) editions (version 97 or 2000 for Microsoft Windows® or Microsoft Windows NT®)

I think I found the answer:

Run Setup for Office XP.

Type the Product Key in the User Information dialog box, and then click OK .

In the Product Compliance Check dialog box, click the Drive list, and then select your CD-ROM drive. You may need to wait if your CD-ROM spins up.

Eject the Office XP CD, and then insert the Office 97 Small Business Edition CD. You may need to wait for the operating system to read the CD. To do this, wait for the CD-ROM to finish spinning up.

Click OK in the Product Compliance Check dialog box.

When the Office XP End-User License Agreement appears, eject the Office 97 Small Business Edition CD, and then insert your Office XP Upgrade CD.

NOTE : If you do not eject your Office 97 Small Business Edition CD at this point, you receive an error message after the Office XP installation continues.

Accept the End-User License Agreement, and then click Next .

Complete the installation for Office XP.
