Yeah, I had an x1800xt that I popped out and popped in the x1900xtx and thought I might be good to go, but when I booted, everything was 640x480. I did the auto hardware found routine, but that did not work. Anyway, I played some Battlefield 2 with the drivers on CD and it played great. I'm going to try COD2 tonight. :)

Yeah, I'm sure the reason I can't get the drivers to install is because I'm running windows xp x64. For them to release a video card without drivers is very stupid. And now, they are saying the new catalyst won't be out until feb? So I basically paid top dollar for a video card I can't even use until feb. by then the cards will drop in price.. only meaning i paid more then i should of.

I emailed ATI about his problem. When I recieved a reply, all they said was to download the drivers off of the site. So, they can't help me out either. They don't even give me a straight answer.

OMG you actually had to open the plastic or paper holding the cd and pop it in the cd-rom ? wow so much work.

Think it gave some fat dude a heart attack and he has a lawsuit against ATI because of it.

It threw me for a loop as well. My habit when I get a new piece of hardware, throw the CD in a drawer and download the newest driver from the MFG website. Worst case *until now* I get the driver that shipped on the CD. I suspect the CD Rev 6.2 is a thrown together release that they want in as few hands as possible. X1900XT support was just added as a bandaid until they can get better drivers out there.

Another thought, Nvidia and ATI have been suspected of holding hardware back to see what the other guy does first in the past. An ace up the sleeve if you will. Well maybe the trend continues, only now with drivers.. They got the hardware out, so they cant be accused of the "Paper Launch".. maybe they are holding a little back at the driver level to see what N does next month. Tin foil hattery, I know but just a thought.

I don't mind installing the drivers that are on the cd, but they dont' work for me. I've tried many ways. HIS's website has some drivers for x1900xtx, but they don't work for me either. I guess I will either format and install xp 32bit or just install my old vid card until the newer catalyst drivers come out.

Don't know if they'll work, but have you looked into Omega Drivers?

I too usually just ignore the CD and go for the latest. That'll teach me! hehe

Omega doesn't seem to have drivers for x64. I am going to install Windows XP 32bit and try to load the drivers from the cd and see if I can get them to install on that version of windows.

Even though the cd has a x64 directory and so do the drivers I downloaded from HIS. I need to make sure that the card is working before it is too late and I can't get it replaced.

I just recieved a reply from Sapphire and here is what they said.

"ATI has just release the new CAT 6.1 version driver, that driver does support
X1900XTX. Please visit the site and download the driver again.
You can get back with me at tech@althonmicro.com.

To post a response please go to the link below."

lol, wtf? ATI even said they don't support that card until next release.

CD worked for me too, but which driver is it??

Im guessing 6.14 based on this *notice the 2D, open GL, etc.

Thats the only thing I can see that even realtes to the catalyst numbers.

The one on the web is probibly 6.0. I dunno for sure because I cant install that one ;)

All the dates on those driver versions are EXACTLY the same as on the 6.1 Cats I have installed on my X1600XT. The only difference is in the Driver Packaging Version.

Hmm, thats odd. So the driver packaging version I would assume is the installer, and the rest is the same thing. Kinda makes since, when I try to install the web version it crashes right after the ATI screen comes up.

Im using an Asus A8N32 so maybe its asus related. It dosnt bother me too much though, I just have to push 1 button on my display or wait for windows to boot. Even then it only happens on restarts.

Besides I havnt tried switching DVI ports on the card, so Im not gonna complain too loud about it just yet. That fixed a similar error I was having with the SLI setup
