Can the married couple keep the woman's last name? i.e. Kevin Smith gets married to Shirley Taylor. When they're married, do they have the choice to keep the woman's last name (Kevin Taylor and Shirly Taylor)?

It would be very gay, but yes. You COULD, though the process would probably not be NEAR as automatic as when a woman changes hers.

anything is possible...

both get one of them; they keep theirs; one gets hyphenated, one does not; both get hyphenated...

i have yet to see... for a m-f marriage, the m gets the last name of the f, while the f gets the last name of the m.... that'd be freaky ;-) m = male, f = female...

Normally the woman takes the man's last name to let everyone know her @$$ is his property. But if you feel up to it and have money to do it, you can have its such that everyone knows who owns your D*ck.

Plunx: Yes.

Be prepared for the crap you will get for doing it though. I personaly could care less what your last name is or who changed theirs.

Hmmnnn Nate .... Your sister is going to get married 'next year' & keep her name for business reasons ....

don't think so .... Your business can be named anything you want & Her new name could be Nate's Sister Oldname His-surname....

Women that keep their own surname after marriage, have a problem with convention, authority & self-identity & may well not have a full commitment to marriage.

Whoa there boy. I took my husbands last name out of respect and love for him, not so he could put his brand on my ass and declare me his. I am not some steer he bought at a farm show, I am his wife. Big difference. And if he had ever even insinuated what you said, we would never have been married.

<< I took my husbands last name out of respect and love for him, >>

I think that the couple should switch last name for this reason.

Ok

Well I live in Quebec and by law a women has to use her given last name in all legal tranactions.

I personally don't see how a women is showing a lack of commitment by not taking the guys last name.

cxim: Well if you want to look at it that way, then couldn't it also be said that men who feel the need to have the woman take their last name feel that way simply because they need reassurement in their manliness? I think it is silly to say a group of people ever do something all for the exact same reason. And saying that a woman who does not change her name after marriage has a problem with self identity does not make much sense. Seems to me she knows exactly who she is, and plans on staying that. ;)
