A question about job hunting process....

Can a company that you are applying for call your current job's HR to verify salary info? I heard somewhere that they can't do that. Anyone know anything

Unless you give them permission, they can't contact your current employer at all. If you do give permission, your current employer is not supposed to divulge your salary, whether you are a good employee or not etc., they can only verify as to whether you are employed there and whether or not they would rehire you.

Booyah. 🙂 However, many employers just don't care about these "restrictions" and ask anyway. Unfortunately, many also get answers.

I read somewhere recently some items regarding this and if I recall correctly they may be able to confirm a range without providing a specific number. It is better to not lie about it, either deflect the question or answer it truthfully.
