A question about holidays and work.

How do holidays work with your employer? I know employers are not obligated to give you any holiday off but if you do work holidays are they required to pay you time and a half per federal law? I'm a teacher so of course I get many holidays(next one being MLK Jr.) My gf hardly gets any days off(basically one day for Thanskgiving and Christmas).

Depends on if you're paid hourly or if you're salaried. I think they're required to pay hourly employees double (?) for holidays and time and a half for overtime. If you're salary, you get screwed.

I don't think time and a half is required for any work in the US federally....other than of course overtime.

State laws vary and may make things different.

I think Home Depot pays time and a half on holidays in addition to holiday pay you would get anyway (4 hours). Not a shabby deal (mom works there).
