Hi,

I am sorry for being ignorant all these while, I have been with this forum since the day it first began. however I am just actively involved in cracking RC5 for Team anandtech because I couldn't stand to see that we are being outnumbered by the DPC lately.

So, let me know a little history of RC5 competition between the 2 teams. Has Team anandtech always be number 1 and this is the first time that DPC is taking over? We have enjoyed the number 1 crown for quite a while now. How long exactly?

what happens to all the people who helped us to be No.1 ? Did they went to different project such as OGR or Seti ?

Please let me know a little bit of the history, seniors :)

Thx

We slowly climbed our way to number one, and we got here in early november. Up until that day in, Slashdot ruled the world of RC-5. The DPC on the other hand have been gaining steam on us, and have climbed to the number two spot in just a few months. They sort of came out of no where back in maybe june, or july, when they first showed that they were a threat to us. They have managed to ramp up their rate very fast compaired to ours. It looks as though we will only be able to hold the number one spot for about two and a half months. Still possible to get it back though!

Of course we dont need to forget about other projects that Team Anandtech is involved in, such as SETI, with a global ranking of 22, and climbing fast (SETI includes competition from major companies, such as Sun, Compaq, Microsoft, SGI, and others). And Gamma Flux, where we are currently #1 (right?). And of course OGR-24 and OGR-25, both where TA currently holds number one ranks.

Thanks for the update people.

So if DPC were to take over, this would be their first time on top ?

hmm.. I hope we can recruit more people to stay on top of this.

Heh.. I remember when Slashdot passed the Evangelista team, back when Rob and gang were heavy on pushing RC5. (6 months later, the Mac Evangelista mailing list shut down).

Slashdot #1 on Distributed Key Processing by Hemos on 12:12 AM December 10th, 1998 PST

(Every time, and I mean EVERY time, Rob posted about Distributed.net, there was a huge surge in participants (on the order of a couple thousand -edit- err. Hundred. Not thousand.).

I know nothing about the DPC Vs. Anandtech thing though.

(Anyone remember Team Bitbucket during the DES challenges? Too bad Alphas suck badly on RC5 compared to their DES performance).

I know alot of members changed from Gamma to other campaigns, because of how long we were at the top. The challage just wasn't there anymore. Some continued to increase their numbers, but slowly our involvement has decreased to where we now stand.

With the DPC's now, I can only assume most quit doing gamma to help with RC5.:)
But as I recall from a previous post quite a while ago, it will only be RC5 the DPC might get #1 in, considering the different projects currently active. They could switch their entire herd to SETI, only to be ran over in RC5 again; Switch to anything they want, but I don't think they have the power to keep #1 in most contests as we have done. (Summary: DPCs - Together they stand, divided they will fall)

For all those DPC's that might read this, this is an observation, not another "why are they picking on me" session. So please no flames.

lots of history, and to think, RC5 is only 40% done, keep in mind it started out very slow, and has been getting faster ever since, and since people keep getting faster CPU's the contest key rate will exponentially grow until its complete.

DPC is slowly starting to speed up on OGR 25 too. No threat to TA at the moment however but DPC team members are growing every day now...;)
