I've done some light research (been out of the game since mobile barton's reigned supreme), and am considering a considerable upgrade. What's the difference between the 2 processors? Is there a multiplier cap on the 6300 and not the 6400, or is the stock ghz the only difference? How do they compare to the 6600?

6300 has a 7x multiplier max and the 6400 has an 8x multi, they both have 2mb cache whereas the 6600/6700/6800 have 4mb

E6300 - 7x266.66 = 1866 MHz (2 MB L2 cache)
E6400 - 8x266.66 = 2133 MHz (2 MB L2 cache)
E6600 - 9x266.66 = 2400 MHz (4 MB L2 cache)

On a budget, get the 6300.
On a budget, but wanting your OC to only be limited by CPU instead of possibly motherboard (due to motherboards only going so high FSB)? Get the E6400.
Like cache & have money? E6600 :)
