Ok. ive posted alot questions already but, i ordered a new computer, so im not sure what i need to use this BUT, i ordered a video card, and it requires a 400 watt cpu power supply, is there anyway to check what my comp's P/S is that i havent recieved yet from dell just from this info...

Inspiron 546
AMD Phenom X4 9750 (2.4GHz, 1066MHz, 4MB)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1, 64-Bit
16X DVD+/-RW Drive
4GB1 Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM2 at 800MHz- 4 DIMMs
500GB3 Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache?
Integrated 5.1 Channel Audio

And if not, does anyone who has this model of computer know the default power supply, and/or know if a NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT OC Graphics card would physically even fit inside, because some people claimed its a bit bigger than normal cards, thanks for reading :)

more than likely that PC will have 300-350w psu. when you get it, you'll want to look at the sticker on the side and see what the 12v rail is rated for. more than likely, it will be in the 15-20a range, which could be somewhat iffy. your best bet would be to replace the psu with not only a higher rated but better quality unit ($40-60, probably). if you don't want to do that, i'd recommend a 4670 for its similar performance to the 9600gt while hopefully consuming a little less power. i wouldn't guarantee anything over a 4650 or 9500gt, though.

Power supply requirements are not absolute, they are usually overstated a bit.

The 9600GT would probably work ok with your psu, the problem is that it needs a 6-pin power connection and your Dell likely won't have it. Also on new Dells there may be no molex connectors, so using an adapter is a pain as well.

The 4670 doesn't require 6-pin power though and would definately work fine with your 300W psu.

it would help if we knew what you were trying to run and at what res, also.

4670 is a competent lower end card, should be fine for cod4, tf2, or the like, notsomuch for playing crysis at high res.
