AFAIK, 64-bit PCI cards are designed to be backwards-compatible to 32-bit PCI slots. The extra contacts just hang out off the end of the PCI slot. Anyone know if this is an ironclad rule?

I didn't know that I guess.

I know the 66Mhz are backwards compatible to 33Mhz bit I didn't know 64bit went to 32.

If the manufacturer allows for reverse compatibility, then yes it will work. I've used 64/66 HBA's in 32/33 slots before albeit much lower performance.

Cheers!

AFAIK 33Mhz 64-bit cards should work in usual 32-bit slot (at least those I have seen/read have been working). You can also put 32-bit PCI cards in 33Mhz 64-bit PCI slots. 66Mhz 64-bit PCI slots/cards on the other hand aren't compatible with 32-bit PCI slots (they don't physically fit ).
