ok, heres the situation: dsl modem to router, 3 machines off the router. the other nite i was racing online (rfactor, excellent!) and had the machine lock up coming out of the online screen from which one enters races. (opening this screen connects you to the server, closing it disconnects you) from that point on, i could no longer reconnect to the server, nor can i open a web page, or connect with my email server. i can ping and get responses from embarq (dsl), earthlink (isp) and anand and google and anyone else i choose. i can see and communicate with the other machines on the network, which have their normal internet connection, from which i now write. some obscure little switch must have gotten tweaked on that lockup from rfactor, and i can not seem to figure what it is. i've run the internet connection wizard, doesnt change anything.

anyone got a thought on this one? in your debt as usual zz03

folks, all ya gotta do is keep reading, you will eventually find an answer; in this case, right on this very forum page. the problem was zonealarm, and i found that the security slider was on high. moving it to medium was all that was required, and that was suggested in a post below. wonderful thing, users forums. happy sunday to all zz03

do you run any kind of software firewall? what happens if you telnet to one of those websites on port 80? do you get a failed connection or a blank screen?

telnet google.com 80

even though you have connectivity locally, try reinstalling your NIC adapter and running the Winsock fix.

edit: nvm, good to hear :)
