A problem with Asus A8V-E Deluxe

I built a computer the other day. its an AMD64 3000+, 1024MB ram, Asus A8V-E Deluxe motherboard, Gigabyte Nvidia 6600GT 128MB. Ive got a 400W Thermaltake powersupply. The mobo has got a 24-pin connector, but the power supply only a 20-pin one. I found out this is ok in most cases to insert the 20-pin one in the 24-pin, leaving the 4 pins free. Ok, so I booted up using the VGA output and got to BIOS. Seems ok, then i changed to the DVI output(i have an LCD screen) BUT all I can see is _very_ screen, only readable under a certain angle of looking at the screen. Whats going on? Do you think its the mobo, powersupply or the VGA card in any case I will have to do more shopping today I guess.

I wouldnt reccomend trying to cheat the system when it comes to improper connections and electricity - everything is made a ceritan way for a reason. I bought the same motherboard and have a 20-pin powersupply. Solution: buy a 20 pin to 24 pin adapter (such as the one listed here in newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16812183045). You can always buy a low quality one from ebay at about $3.00 if newegg is too high a price for you. If this seems fishy or you want an excuse to buy a new power supply, just buy a new powersupply. LMK if this helps.
