well, i used to have intergrated audio (ac97) on the motherboard and it was working fine. my friend then gave me a sb (sound blaster?) 128 pci sound card.
When i insallted it, sounds were choppy and VERy quiet. i gave up looking for drivers that might fix this problem, so i took the card out and started my computer but whenever the screen passes the "windows loading scrren, the one were there is a animated blue bar moving", the screen just turns black. the moden is still running as i hear the fan and the keyboard/router powers light are on.

To make my computer start, i would have to go into the bios and disable the onboard soun (ac97) but then i have no sound 😵. how can i fix this problem.

thanxs, i really need help

still doesnt work...

when i first installed windowsxp on my comp, it said i need a ac97 driver so i downloaded one and it was fine

tried to install a sb pci 128 card but was disappointed in the sound quality

uninstalled driver and took out the card

booted the machine (could not get the sound working) so i installed the driver.. and told me to restart (i though it would work because when shutting down, i heard the typical shutting down theme)

booted in safe mode and uninstalled the ac97 driver (i can boot in safe mode with the ac97 enabled but still no sound)

booted pack regular and insalled driver but the same thing happens /... does not work

when computer is starting up from my restart, screen just goes blank after the windows xp loading page. (computer starts without monitor after that)

fiddled around with bio and system works only when ac97 on audio is disabled

Wow...yeah, I would say to try rollingback drivers and fiddling with that but it seems like it is totally taking a dump on you 🙁
My condolences.
