A president that listens to public suggestions...

If you noticed that Obama always responds to media and mass emails that are negative in his rallies. So I thought about it emailed on his campaign web site. Three days later, I get a response, saying thank you for your suggestions and we consider all suggestions. So its possible they might not read entire email, but may be read at least the subject lines.

So I was thinking. May be this time we will have a president that listens to us. Why don't we email our suggestions, put up PETITIONs. He might not listen to one person, but I am sure petitions. Remember, Obama is very active on internet usage. He has based him self as the internet president. So don't think he ignores everyone, if there are active petitions, etc, I am sure he will listen and consider.

That is what I think. I have listened to Obama speeches for past 3 months. And I noticed he's different and cares what we think...

This forum consists of educated, technical, smart people that care about many things.

Thanks everyone!!!

Politicians of any stripe stop attempting to act like they are being responsive on the day after an election.

I thought about that, but if you listen carefully, he says that he will continue what he is doing now... he repeatedly said that he wants to make the white house transparent and make many conferences public on CSPAN.

Yes, politician's lie, but let's face it. Do we really have much more to go on during a campaign other than their word and their history? We have to believe in something if we are to make a decision. We can't just assume that everything is made up of lies.

You're being a little bit too zealous with this Obama worship. While he may be the best political speaker in a generation, keep in mind that he's still a regular old politician whose bound to break the majority of his promises, just like the rest.

personally, I assume the vast majority of anything a politician says are lies/pandering. I tend to ignore the rhetoric and try and focus on judgment, character, and how I think they'll perform as president.

I'm voting for Obama, but not because I think he'll get us out fo Iraq or that he's going to waste time reading random BS petitions on the interwebs.

presidents have to make hard, unpopular decisions sometimes. I don't want rule via american idol phone-ins.

Ya, it's important to try your best to read in between the lines.

I don't know if I want a President that panders to every mass email or pressure group. It sounds too close to lobbying to me. But I do want a President who does pay acute attention to the results of their policies, which is one of the giant failures of GWB&co IMHO.

But unlike the OP on this thread, I have sent the Obama web site a number of emails expressing general support with most of his policies, but I did express why I felt a sense alarm about about some of his hawkish positions on Iran and Pakistan and why I felt he was wrong. I have yet to even receive a reply.

I have... and that says something. There is a difference between blaming him, puting him down... and making positive good suggestions..

I somewhat resent the implication in your assumption that my emails to Obama were blaming him or putting him down as being the reasons I got no response.

But I agree, the fact that you did get a response does say something good.

I don't have a problem with it per se but would feel alot better with something like a nonbinding voter referendum or initiative. Organized email campaigns are too much like online polls.

Also - I'm all for Constitutional amendment allowing a recall referendum on Commander Codpiece and the Cheney Whitehouse.
