A poll - on oranges. . .

episodic

Lifer
Take the poll. That is all.

I eat mine the dogbowl method - spit out dry oranges and get my money back - and I don't think I'm strange btw. . .

I usually take about 30 min to peel my orange. I get rid of all the peel and the white stuff before splitting it. I hate the white stuff and peeling it gives me something to do when I watch tv.

Regular oranges I generally peel and eat methodically. Same for clementines and tangerines. Tangelos, however, I will eat all three ways. (Or sometimes cut into eighths rather than fourths.)

Why get your money back from juiceless oranges? You didn't buy orange juice...just an orange. 😀

If we get several of them then my wife will probably take them back...but it rarely happens. Buy heavy oranges, get more juice.

She has a couple of old (20+ years old) Tupperware orange peelers. I use them almost every time I eat an orange at home. (unless she peels and sections it for me.) 😛

I dunno, I get mad when I pay for anything that is crap. I decided a long time ago to get my money back for crappy stuff. Yes, I get some strange stares. . .

I rode up through Escondido on Saturday on my way up to Julian for some fresh baked apple pie through some beautiful orange groves and they were in full bloom. Smells were incredible.

California oranges are incredible.

Using an orange peeler (those yellow plastic things) I score a circle around each "end" of the orange, like the Arctic and Antarctic circles around the pole. Then I score lines connecting those circles longitudinally along the circumference of the orage, every 3/4" or so. Then i pull off each of those panels, then the circle of rind opposite the stem end, then the stem end. Split the orange in halves, pull each piece off and eat it.

No orange. Clementine.

We can only get clementines for part of the year where I live, and they are usually really expensive.

I once ate 24 clementines in one sitting. It was delicious, followed by a brief stomach ache.

peel the entire orange. pick off as much of the excess white stuff as I can.

divide into segments, eat orange one segment at a time.

I guess they aren't really expensive, but they can get to about $7/8 for a little box when they just start coming into season and going out. There might be 10-12 in a box.

I slice the rind into sections and peel them off, leaving just the inside flesh and as little pith as possible. I pull out the big cap-like thing on one end, and then split it up as its own sections indicate. This way, my hands stay dry.

1. Wash orange
2. Cut slice that I can fit in my mouth.
3. Eat the "meat"
4. Eat the peel

Rinse and repeat until Orange is no more.

Just a tip. Aldi has some amazing oranges. There are like $1.30 a bag of 8 or so (which is a good price around here) and they are always amazing. I don't understand it, because usually Aldi has mediocre food, but their oranges have never disappointed me.

Anyway, to answer the question. I bit into the skin to start peeling, then I pull away sections and enjoy. Bonus points if I can peel the skin in one piece.

I had like 3 oranges today and enjoyed them quite thoroughly

fyi, if you haven't seen Eddie Izzard's routine on orange, you need to.

Let the peel come off in small chunks! Push ze pips into where zey least expect it!

I cut each orange in half, and then each half into three pieces. I then use my fingers to peel the orange off the peel avoiding sticky fingers more or less altogether.
