A poll and a question on CDR's and CDRW's

I made a CDR of my files a few months ago and have used it several times. Tonight I tried to use it and nothing. My Pioneer DVD drive kicks it back out and my Plextor Starts up CD Creator like it is blank. I ran scan disc on it and it says there is nothing on it. Any way of recovering the files? If I reformat will that destroy any hope of ever recovering any files?

Now the poll: What kind of blank CDR's and CDRW's do you use? Good and Bad experiences? Any long term storage problems?

I bought a five pack of Memorex CDRW?s and three of them wouldn?t even format and the other two would only record about 3/4?s of the way before stopping. I thought that it was my Plextor, so I tried them in two other recorders---same problem.

Anyone have any info or link's to VERY thorough and objective testing of CDR or CDRW blank disc?s?

IMHO Memorex are BAD!:disgust:

I have been burning for nearly 3 years now. Memorex quality has seriously gone haywire. That's why their blanks are the "cheapest" you will find anywhere. I have about 30 blank 80min CDR's left from a spindle that are going to make a nice mobile in my garage someday! hehehehehe

So, in conclusion; Don't buy Memorex!

Don't know what the prob is.
I always use Imation CD-R's -- Good discs for great price
And Sony CD-RWs -- the only kind I can get close to my place, and hey, there pretty good too

I disagree a little about Panasonic drives I have one, a CW-7585, was a good price, but I think it's just generally pretty low quality design. Also -- Although I'm not sure this last part is completely Pana's fault-- , the drive I got had a manual for a 2x SCSI drive, a software CD for a Que! drive, not a real one, a copied one, no cable or audio wire, and worst of all: The CD included old versions of Easy CD Creator and DirectCD that weren't compatible at all with the drive. Called Panasonic, multiple times, kept on getting, "Well, sorry, you'll just have to go out and spend $40 on the latest Adaptec software. Finally called distributer and a guy there e-mailed me a patch. Still have various probs with drive, though. If you need a drive get a TDK or Yamaha or if you can afford one, a Plextor of course.

Those 100 for $20 Imation and cheap Memorexs work fine for my HP burner. Maybe 1/12 errors, some from copy protection (Unreal Tournament took 3 tries :D).

Oh yeah, DON'T EVER BUY SIRIUS CD-Rs
THEY'RE THE WORST KIND
I bought a 20 pack when I first got my burner and they are just horrible, worst part of them is using them for audio. Not so great sound quality and it takes about 1:30 between each track on any player. more than half of the 20 pack were coasters

Best: Silver/Silver ones, Ricoh's, Sony's.
Worse are the Maxell's, Memorex and Verbatim.

Another Memorex hater here. I bought a 100 spindle from CompUSA and HALF were bad. If you looked closely at the disc itself you could see splotches of ink and light and dense spots. Quality control seemed very bad on my lot. I always make it a point to triple archive all the important stuff I have.
