a point system for special titles?

I think a point system for users that would then earn them custom titles. To prevent e-penis arrogance, the system could be in a way that is not explicitly displayed in a user's profile... a sort of hidden system that's visible to mods and such. Although, I don't think the people that accrue the points (brutus, devilsadvocate, etc) would necessarily have an e-penis complex.....

Anyway, maybe the users can nominate points to a user when it's appropriate or something.

Flesh out the "maybe the users can nominate points to a user when it's appropriate or something" idea and get back to us.

I think the moderators have a good sense of judgement, enough to get the job done right. I look at all of the elites, and with the exception of one or two, I can see clearly why they have the title they do. I think it's best left to those who are entirely impartial. In addition to that, the system we have now is fair and impossible to abuse.

AT used to have user ratings, but the kiddies thought it was fun to degrade people's ratings, so the feature was disabled.

What you are describing is similar to the reputation system in vBulletin. I post on some forums that have configured that system so that users can only improve each other's scores, not bring them down. Moderators can move users' scores both up and down.

The system is still subject to occasional abuse.

The DevShed forums are a good example of reputation points.

Yeah, that's what I'm describing. I have faith (maybe an irrational blind one) in ATOT ... maybe a little too much.

Some of those guys with -1,000,000 ratings earned them. 😉

That was great. On a rating of 1 to 10 some people had -8 million. I was actually pretty happy with my 8.2 (IIRC) before it went away.

See, I never understood that.
Back when I first joined you could only vote once per person.
I dont know how it could have been abused unless guys were hacking the forums.

So it's like a class system? Everyone is rated and by looking at their score you know right away weather or not they have anything worthwhile to say? Sounds like a great setup, everyone who disagrees with the majorty will have a zero score. Perhaps we could get the mods to ban anyone who is at zero for over a month?

I could see something for people that troll or something, but disagree with the majority? Since when is disagreeing with people on an internet forum a bad thing?

Sorry about that. There really should be a sarcasm font to make things clear.
