A plugin/codec to play streaming Real Media files.

Hello everyone.

Windows Media Player is my choice for playing my media files. Some files I downloaded use the .mov file extension which ofcourse belong to Quicktime however I have a browser plugin which is only 500kb and lets me play those mov files in Internet Explorer which is really good. I was hoping there was something like this for Real Media files so that I don't have to install the bloated RealONE Player which I will never use. I was hoping it can play streaming real files (.rm) and/or real media files stored on a hard drive. If not, maybey a simple little aplication which does. I tried Real Alternative but that can't play streaming real files.

where did you get the plugin for quicktime? i have playing mov files in quicktime too and ide much rather use wmp

The plugin came with the quicktime player. When I uninstalled Quicktime I left the plugin installed. You can't play mov files in wmp though. You have to play them in IE in it's own little player.

First get Real Alternative
Then get RealMedia Splitter

That should be all you need. Also if you want quicktime files, I seriously recommend the Quicktime Alternative

quicktime alternative works good. i think it decreases the quality a bit tho? not sure about that.

but i hate using quicktime so quicktime alternative is great to have.

But when I try to play a streaming .rm file it doesn't work 🙁

The .rm file is only like 1kb, must be Real's format for streaming like wmp's asx.
