A few years ago I worked with a woman who was in her 40s and had never been on an airplane in her life because she was deathly afraid of flying. Her fear was very real and very powerful and ultimately it stemmed from her inability to trust or release control of her destiny to a complete stranger. She did overcome it and has flown since but talking to her made me realize just how powerful your fears can become...no matter how unfounded.

Fuck, I've watched hundreds of hours of plane crash documentaries on TV and I find them fascinating but I've never felt any anxiety about flying other than the dread of being couped up in a tin can for 5+ hours at a time.
