A place to rent a digital SLR?

If i wanted to say rent a Canon 30D or something similar is there a place that i could do that.

I have tried googling that before but didn't find any place that carried what i wanted. Curious if anyone here knows of a place?

Are you going for local places? Any serious photography store should offer rentals. By serious I do not mean Ritz or any of those dinky shopping mall camera stores.

Local would be nice.

I was just asked to be a photographer for a graduation party... a paying gig. I'm half tempted to go and buy the 30D and the lens that want, since i am going to do it anyway some time this year; but i don't want to spend that much money just yet.

I was asked because the photos that have taken on my Elan iie always come out nice; and they have seen what i can do. It would feel weird to show up with my powershot 800IS to take pictures "professionally" for this event, so rather than buying everything out right right now, i would like to rent.

Well, there are definitely a few places in the greater San Francisco Bay Area that offer rentals of higher end cameras and accessories. The best one south of S.F. is Keeble and Shuchat: http://www.kspphoto.com/

Google may be your friend to find shops in your area...

I would prefer some thing more local than San Fran seeing as i live on the east coast 😛

Thanks for the suggestion though.

consult your local phone book under 'camera' or 'photography.' like fuzzy said, any good camera store will have a rental department.

As noted, do some quick searching and you'll find a place. Didn't know your area, so I left what info I had... Anyway, good luck with the rental... Judging by prices around here, it's not cheap, but gives you a chance to play with some nice toys...

It's not really to play around. I have a photography gig and showing with my Powershot 800Is probably wouldn't look that good 😛

Guess that's what I said literally, but not what I meant... I knew you had a paying gig, but I also know you can rent equipment that would probably be well beyond what you'd ever consider buying for personal use, even if you did have a basic photography job. The term "play" was meant more in line with "sample" equipment that you wouldn't normally be able to get your hands on, or even consider if you were just buying it yourself...

And honestly, tell me you are not going to put the equipment you rent through it's paces, experimenting with what it you and it can do before your paying gig? Also keep in mind that if you are considering buying at all, most shops will put at least a portion of your rental fees towards purchase if you end up going that route... Worth checking into...

Anyway, hope you find a local shop to hook you up. I'd hate to see you sporting that Powershot as the official photographer.. 😉

For anything more than a day or weekend I'd highly recommend http://www.lensrentals.com/ No one else compares to the pricing, and the guys will work with you so everything turns out right.

You'll probably want a day or two to play around and take practice shots, get used to what ISO you'll tolerate in lower light. Better to know before than guess the day of.

Edit: Oh your not Bay Area... I deleted my bay area help 😀
