Sweet, now the masses can all adore one of the best phones I've used in years. The enV has it all: QWERTY, email, IM, navigation, 3D-accelerated games, VCast Music and Video, and some other features I can't talk about that are "coming soon" (software update). The cool thing is that Navigation on this phone works both on the big screen and on the outer screen with clamshell closed, with different graphics for each screen.

Here's a pic (enV is the one in the middle): pic

The phone does sound cool, but after looking at that pic I can only wonder if anything was damaged in the earthquake?

Does it make and receive phone calls?

Its a variation of the standard LG / VZW OS for BREW phones--with the flip closed it uses the familiar tabbed interface on almost all VZW phones, but with the flip opened it uses a new Flash-based hi-res GUI on the larger screen. Its not a full-fledged smartphone, but it does allow you to keep apps resident in the background (like VZNavigator) and it will let you listen to music while working in other apps.

In all seriousness, it has the best call quality of any "smartphone" Verizon sells. And the speakerphone can't be beat--great sound quality and volume. Also has decent voice-activated dialing--after training with your voice its MUCH MUCH MUCH more accurate than what Windows Mobile offers on the Q.

I purposely didn't take a decent pic because the phone hadn't been announced at the time. Actually, for awhile that was the best pic of the phone available on the net.

edit: better pics in this review

im still waiting to see if those internal documents listing a feburary release for the samsung i760 are true. if they are indeed, then that may have to be my next purchase.

Well, sorry to rain on the parade but retail phones do have some of the familiar restrictions on OBEX--but if you use an LG data cable and BitPim you can get around that. However, you can send pics from the phone to a computer via Bluetooth, and for most people that should suffice. The A2DP headphone support is also pretty cool.

It looks like a 9800 (which was a crap phone from what I hear from a few people that had it) that's been updated with EVDO, 2MP cam, and GPS.

BFD.

So can I, who has a vx9800, get the update for the main screen menu? I would love to listen to music while doing other stuff. The only new things on this vx9900 are the 2mp camera and the microsd instead of minisd. So what makes this phone so much better?

No edits needed for OBEX. You do not have access to the ringtones, but you have access to all the other media files on the phone and the microSD card.
OBEX folders: MyPictures, MySounds, MyVideos, SdPictures, SdSounds, SdVideos
link

also you can access bitpim through bluetooth also and not have to use the data cable.

GPS? WiFi?
Yes and No.

Weak. Plenty of stuff coming soon that will own it in functionality and looks.

Has there been a time when this wasn't true? If we waited for the next greatest thing to come out, we'd all still be talking on these.
