I just had a bowl movement and I notice blood. The last time this happened was 1-2 weeks ago. I'm not sure what this means but I did have a dramatic shift in diet since school started recently. I ate a lot and frequently during the summer and ate little when school started. My intake of water have also declined. Maybe it's because of my diet but then again I want to be sure yet not freak out and run to the E.R.

well dude. you might want to drink more water. sounds like your stool is a little hard. maybe it's something you're eating? are you eating rocks again? ;) seriously though. take in softer foods. I don't know what your diet is like now but I noticed that if I didn't drink enough water and ate alot of hard foods like chips and stuff, my butt bled. ugh!

ok. i just want to be sure that a diet can be a cause of bloody stools and not some horrendous disease :( in terms of my diet, i shift from eating a lot of prepared meat/carbs/protein drinks to fast food.

btw, are you getting blood just from the tissue or in the toilet? what color are your stool?

Fiber....Fiber.....Fiber

And when you're done with that:

Water....Water....Water

Give it about 3-4 days and it should take care of itself

Well my stool is usually dark brown almost black. (can't beleive I'm discussing this).

yeah I agree with the larger intake of veggies and fruits. need that fiber in yo diet.

About the blood. Well it was there when I wiped. had a couple times that i actually had blood in the bowl but that was because it was bleeding pretty bad. I think I ripped a hole or something. ;)

ehe. yea we're discussing stool but it's a legitimate health issue. i read on webmd that the color of the stool tells you what the problem is. black/tarry stool hints a problem at the upper level and reddish stool shows a problem at the lower level. i'm chomping on carrots now and drinking water. hopefully it'll take care of everything.

Whoa! You managed to move the whole (toilet) bowl? My butt would be bleeding too if I crapped that hard.

No, seriously, fiber and water and that'll work wonders.

Uh, good mealtime thread buddy.
Sounds like hemorrhoids; fiber, veggies, exercise, etc.
And wouldn't hurt to see your doctor.

In general, bright red blood means a tear or some kind of problem near the end of the line. Dark red or black blood means something further up the tract, possibly intestinal. Any blood in the stool is cause for concern, but there are things you can and should rule out before you need to call the doctor.

Not eating enough fiber or drinking enough water can make your stools hard, causing tiny rips, cuts and tears in your lower colon when you go to the bathroom. The smallest little cut can bleed quite a bit - so it may be a teeny problem that looks massive. If you've had a significant change in your diet or if you've noticed a sudden change in your bowel movements, then do as some others suggested and get some more fiber and water. If the bleeding continues past a couple of days, call a doctor.

Any dark blood in the stool is a reason to call your doctor. My brother had dark blood in his stool that largely went unnoticed because he didn't know what it was. When his doctors tested him for surgery on his knee, they found he was badly anemic; the source of the anemia was traced to bleeding polyps in his colon. He was finally diagnosed with Gardner's Disease and had his entire colon and part of his lower intestine removed. Biopsies later revealed those polyps were all pre-cancerous.

I'm not trying to scare you - chances are, from what you've described, it's the first case and you just need to make some dietary adjustments. But keep an eye on it and if you still see it in a few days, call the doctor. Better to be safe than sorry.
