A PC that beats the new Imac in size, power and whatever you might think of

But how much? And is this really that different than one of those all-in-ones, like the Gateway Profiles? (Except for maybe the radio and tv part). It also doesn't list what type of video card it has, only "high-spec PC".

We can argue until the cows come home without getting anywhere about whether top of the line PC's or Apple's are faster, though I think PC currently have a distinct advantage, but there is no question at all an 800MHz G4 w/ 256MB of RAM and a GF2 MX will beat a PIII 800 128MB with shared video running practically anything. Plus the Imac is upgradeable to a 1GB of RAM.

As to which one I would rather own, if they both ran PC software (Imac never will, but hypothetically), I would much rather have the IMac. It's faster, more upgradeable, has a CDRW or even a DVD-R drive, a larger hard drive, plus firewire ports. The Imac beats it in almost every category. At no point have I ever sat around and wished my PC had an FM only radio in it. Only problem, the top end Imac probably costs more, and the biggest problem, it's an Apple, which means it doesn't run any software.

They could do much better.

1. 128MB SDRAM? Hah. 256 MB is what you need, at least.
2. P3-800? Come_On.
3. Shared video memory. Is that an S3 Virge, or better? :)

.. Just thinking out loud.

Your points are good. One thing is that a lot of Mac people own a Mac simply because they like MacOS. I wish we had some nice 1-2ghz machines, but I can't say my G4/867 is crawling for me ;)

As for no software, what software? I don't play tons of games (BG2 is about it on the mac, although I want neverwinter nights if/when it comes out), so maybe thats why I don't see any issues in my case at least. For the 'average' home user, there is a ton of software for the Mac, including MS Office (and v.X is =very= nice), to Quicken, to Photoshop, to a decent number of games.

Just curious is all...
