a partition in Win XP gone!!!

system hanged, so i manually shut down the computer.
when restarted, Win XP saw the partition, but wanted to format it for some reason. i cannot access it at all.
in DOS, i can view the partition n everything in it. it's fine there.
how can i make winXP see the partition at all? n not for it to ask me to format it, cause i dont wanna do that off course
