I parked my car at a legal spot with a meter in downtown San Francisco around 11:30 PM and came back to my car around 2 AM. I saw NO signs of any street cleaning or signs saying that you can't park there. I came back and got a ticket for street cleaning at 1 AM. I searched google and can't find any information. I am going to protest this citation as there were no signs at all about street cleaning. For those familiar with SF street cleaning, does it really happen at 1 AM on a weekend night? If so, that is so screwed up. It was near Embarcadero center.

Either on the meter pole or on a street sign within that block were signs. Count on it.
In order to protest it, you'll need to submit bail which is coincidentally, the cost of the ticket. Then, you'll have to take a day off of work, Go to The Hall of Injustice early, stand in line and go through a metal detector shake down, wait to get your case called, only to have a judge tell you you're wrong, they are right, and you'll forfeit the bail for the ticket, plus aNother $35.00 for assorted "costs".

Paying now is cheaper.

I analyzed the text on the meter and walked about quarter of a mile in each direction of my car looking for a sign. I did not find any. All the other cars who were parked in the same street as me got a ticket. I'm sure none of us saw any kind of street cleaning sign.. especially one that occurs on a saturday night at 1 AM.

You should probably just pay it and stop crying.

Simple google "street cleaning times, san francisco streets" brings us to this link which will provide you with street sweeping schedules for any address in SF.

And yes some streets are swept on weekend nights, I'm guessing they're in commercial areas.

The whole point is so people take cabs both ways to/from bar (vs street parking and taking cab home). This usually backfires as most just drive home drunk next time.

Good luck. Last year I got one in another city I've never been to. Parked vehicle overnight.

No signs posted any where restricting parking. Sure enough, come out and I have a parking ticket. Apparently there is a city wide law forbidding parking on city streets without a permit (that of course you have to pay for) between 2AM and 6AM.

So I contested it saying there were no signs. Their reply was it is posted on signs at the entrances to the city. Such money making BS, who the fuck is going to stop in the middle of the road and read the fine print at the entrance to a city?
