A parachute, not a bad idea

I was thinking about this, if I ever worked in a skyscraper, it wouldn't be all together unreasonable to have a parachute in my desk drawer. A few hundred dollar investment on extra safety.

I don't think too many people around here like the idea. I STILL think a parachute is the only reasonable way to evacuate a 110 story building. Even the best fire system within the building can fail.

It would work........but only depending on the winds....you dont want to bail out and then have to worry about slamming into the same building you're trying to get away from

Guess you guys missed my explanation for the people 'jumping' Link

Anyways, there will be very few instances where the building is likely to collapse and you have no way out... most fire deaths are actually smoke inhalation, so a better item would be a gas mask. It'll be cheaper too.

I'm thinkin long a$s piece of rope, grappling hook, and rappel down the side. Or is it too far down?

that's 1300 feet if you're near the top, I don't think anyone is going to repel down the side.

im thinking some type of little house up top that has a long titanium cable that goes down like all the way to the water or something and then there's a bunch of little harnesses that go on this cable and then everyone just gets sent off and lands down there..... actually this system would work very well i think......

NFS4 - Hey that's funny, I was thinking of that while taking a dump too. I find that some of my most brilliant ideas have come on the toilet.

Just a basic safety tip.

Do you know where the emergency exits are for the buildings you work in. Close your eyes right now and pretend it is pitch dark. Can you find your way to an exit.

Guys in dorms, where are the stairs from your room, can you wake in the middle of the night and find them easily?

Which way is it, how many doors to the exit, which way do you go at an intersection.

If not, learn it, and pratice walking it and an alternative route until you could do it blindfolded.

It might just save your life.
