Taken from MS Core requirements for MCSE 2000:

"Compressed files can't be encrypted, and encrypted files can't be compressed"

As for the why, you'll have to read the book! ;)

(actually it doesn't say - at least the little bit I read)

i would imagine it would have to do with lossy compression and encryption thus being botched.
for both cases i think.
but i am neither A+ certified nor MCSE certified.

Right from TechNet

NTFS file compression and file encryption are mutually exclusive because of the way NTFS compression is performed. You can use only one of these options at a time on a file.

and thats all they say.

LOL, you obviously missed the spoof thread a few weeks back where someone released a new lossy compression program. Lossy compression will screw up binary programs royally, no OS uses lossy.

That's just sad if Winblows can't do compression and encryption at the same time. Hell, even good ol' DoubleSpace could do that. Get out your fav PGP version, then ZIP up the encrypted file. works fine.

Lossy Binary compression.....LOL!!!

I dunno, but i took both tests for the A+ today and passed both. You shouldn't have any difficulty at all.
