I wonder what the life expectancy of those guys are, if they use something similar to printer technology as the displays.

Pretty cool applications are possible with that, but I don't see any need for improvement over my LCD. Do I really need something THINNER than 1.5"?

The displays can function without a backlight, which cuts down on power consumption, screen thickness and cost. OLED displays also offer higher resolution than LCDs.

The big thing with them is that they use less power since they don't require a separate backlight. These are already beginning to show up in portable audio players (I think the Zen Micro Photo has one) where you want to save as much power as you can since making a larger battery generally wouldn't be feasible.

Oh, right, for laptops, yes of course. But for my desktop LCD, I mean, I'm really quite fine with its 35 W power consumption.

And it annoys so much when they talk about how an advantage is that it will be cheaper to produce. So? All that means is more profits for the manufacturers, NOT better prices for the consumers. New tech is always the most expensive simply because it's new. There's no way OLED monitors would come out and be priced less than LCDs because it cost them less to make it.
