A new meaning to desktop cases

I recently built a PC like that. I just mounted the mobo, HD and PS to the bottom of the desk. The keyboard, mouse, monitor and CD-ROM are sitting on top of the desk. The challenge was the momentary switches you normally see on the front of the case. I had to strip them off an old AT case.

Cooling is great. No need for 10-zillion case fans. Just make sure you mount it far from where your knees would go.

Interesting. I think I'll just keep mine in the case, though. Gotta move it several times a year because of school.

Hmmmmm.....now you've got me thinking......no case fans....but you'd still have the PS/CPU/videocard fans....AND they'd be out in the open, with no case to muffle the noise...it might be LOUDER than my full tower w/four case fans is now. :p

Now, for a WORK, workstation where you're using the onboard video...then maybe. GF4 is the loudes thing in my main rig. High speed blender. :Q

True.

And the damn thing better be sealed. I don't want my knee anywhere near two high-speed fans (I run a duallie)! But with the thing sealed, the cooling will suffer like hell.

Maybe one could build one with metal table so that the whole table behaves like an enormous heatsink? :D

I like it! I may have to do something like that. With an attractive LCD and a wireless keyboard and mouse, and wireless LAN, you could leave that in a living area without it looking like a computer room with wires running everywhere.

Whats stopping you from building a 1/4 - 12" underboard with something like 4 small post going up and attaching to the bottom of the desk. Leaving the 3 sides open for airflow. Or you could build the whole thing into something like a deskdrawer? And put some fans on the back of the drawer releasing the hot air. It'd keep your legs and feet nice and warm this winter :D

I wonder if the desk has been insulated from static? I'd hate to touch the desk during the winter and fry the components. :D
