a new bed for me

ok...so i am moving into a new house...my new room is going to be a tiny bit smaller, but i will be gaining a big screen...most likely not a wall mount. Anywho, in order to save space i plan on replacing my current dresser with a platform bed that has storage under it. So far my favorite is: http://cgi.ebay.com/METRO-OAK-QUEEN-PLA...1QQcategoryZ115748QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I was wondering if anyone new of some similar beds in a better price range. Not really looking to get anything under queen size. Also, i am a college kid, so color and design are the least of my factors. Looking for good price and solid wood, no p.o.s. particle board 😛

also, if you can think of any other space saving furniture, that would be nice...

err...also...i've been highly considering a big hammock to hang from the ceiling...i cant seem to find one that would substitute as a good bed...so, if you happen to know, please share your knowlege 🙂

thanks!

i say build one or get a friend that knows how to do it, but give them some money for it 🙂. show them this pic bu t not hte price 😉 lol

visit your local mattress outlet. They will have some platform beds that conform to your requirements, if they don't, there are plenty of similar places all around.

You want to put some emphasis on the mattress quality as well. Lie down on the mattresses, roll around, lie on sides, etc. for at least 10 minutes per mattress so that you really get a feel for whether or not it will be suitable for you. More $$ does not necessarily it is more comfortable for you.

Most bed frames I have seen do not use particle board. My full size bed costed 90$ and uses pine 2x4's and assorted other sizes (I had to build it of course). You probably should expect to pay roughly 300-1000$ on the mattress, and 150$-700$ on the frame depending on what your needs are. Platform beds do not need boxsprings (as it would look odd sticking out so high off potentially not being stable) so that can save you 200$-500$

thanks guys,
i guess i should clear some things up...i've already got a nice queen bed+box springs on a pos $20 metal frame...i was just looking for a new frame i suppose...

my roomate is an expert carpenter, but i dont wana bother him anymore than i already do, plus what i want (that first link) looks pretty complex...

i'm really considering a pillowtop hammock suspended from the cieling with a pully to raise it up out of my way when not in use...my only concern is back support...maybe i could find a way to make the bottom solid with a peice of wood...:/ kind of complex though

My friend and I built an elevated bed frame for him using 4 4x4's and a few 2x4's for stabilization. It allowed him to put his bed frame on top of the elevated one and sleep about 4-5' off the ground. There's a lot of storage room beneath it. You could either fit a dresser under it or make a drape to cover the things you store under it, which is what we did for his.

Dude, do yourself a favor and get a memory foam bed.

Preferably a Tempur-Pedic or a good knockoff. I got one(5.3lb same as t-p) from this place Ebay seller and it was the best thing I've bought in the last year. I have no affiliation with this outfit but their products rock. The free pillows they threw in made it an over the top great deal.

Who cares about frames and headboards and all that? I just want to sleep good! 😀
