a network cable is unplugged ...

I have a 2 computer set-up for now. I use the Linksys EG005W switch

there's one computer working perfectly using a linksys EG1032 (asus p4pe )

The other one :
asus p5b deluxe wi-fi with intel pro 1000 pci-e x1 desktop gigabit network adapter
os: win xp64 sp1

I get alternative messages at the bottom of my screen :
1. a network cable is unplugged
2. local area connection is connected 1.0 gbps

Everything is fine with the switch (Linksys EG005W) when I plug my p5b all alone. The same occurs if I open my P4Pe alone.Unfortunately when I open my p4pe and my p5b those messages below right appear again on the 2 computers

Hoping someone could help me with this one.

With Regards

Hi Tweekah and Jack,

I followed every instruction that we see in that link :http://www.ezlan.net/faq.html#unplugged

so I set up an ip adress for computer 1 of
192.168.34.27 sub net mask 255.255.255.0 default gateway : blank DNS server:blank

On computer 2 192.168.34.33 with the same other parameters

All my drivers are fine. I have good cables that I changed yesterday(3 feet long Belkin
cat 6 gold series snagless networking cable)

thanks in advance guys for helping me out!

On the 2nd computer, did you hook it into the switch with RJ45 cable? If not, then the message is pointing into on board network (RJ45 jack).

As I remember, P5B Dlx/wifi has 2 RJ45 jacks on board (100/1000) and additional card for Wifi. The message that you saw "2. local area connection is connected 1.0 gbps" from the Wifi .... the wireless card connected into your wireless router (or could be your neighbor's wireless signal)

Hi sbinh,

What I mean is that I have 2 consecutive messages that alternate telling me that I'm connected at 1.0 gbps tHis message changes to this :a network cable is unplugged

today I tested my cables at the store and they are ok. They tested the switch but only at 100mbps and it was functionning...Hoping that it can gives some clues to people.

By the way I don't use the wifi option of that board.I even link another computer instead of my p5b with my p4pe and the same problem occurs.

Thanks a lot guys for your help!

here some more precisions about how everything is connected:

2computers that I try to link together using Linksys EG005w(if it works I will link a third one)

I use cat6 cables (belkin gold series) I connect those from the NIC of each computer to the EG005W.
I give a static IP adress to each computer 192.168.34.27 for computer 1 and 192.168.34.28 for computer 2.

Subnet mask for each computer : 255.255.255.0

No DNS server adress

LMhosts lookup is enable

netbios setting is at default

In my local area connection properties I check the "show icon in notification area when connected" to see if my computers connect correctly and it shows the speed.

Hoping that what I wrote may help someone to find what is my problem

With regards
