My brother's PC and mine will be sharing AT&T Broadband (now Comcast) cable together. Before it was just to hook up the modem to the NIC card but what do I need to do now? Is it hard to set up a router?

Thanks.

It isn't hard at all. I bought a Linksys 4 port router and just plugged in the cat5 cables, hooked it up to the two computers, plugged the router in and bam, the two computers were set up.

i thought it was more anal than that.. i heard bunch of things about issuing the ip address and the host PC has to stay on in order for other PC to be online etc... GAH!

how much should I expect to pay for a router? what model do you recommend?

i dont think you need encryption, since it isn't wireless, but yes, there is a firewall in the router, and it's configured automatically.

if my pc acts as a router, then i wouldn't need to spend $$ for one but I assume having a router is much more efficient?

He meant if your PC acts as a router then it needs to be on for other computer to go online. If you have a router they can both use the internet independantly. Just get a router it's not that expensive or hard to figure out.
