a mysterious chip... is it ram?

hey wassup, concerning rdram memory, I've noticed that they have to be installed in pairs and next to each single ram , there is a chip next to it that looks like a ram chip but isn't labeled. What is that chip for? BTW, i own a sony.

I think it might be a dummy RDRAM module.

Could you replace that with real ram?

So these chips are in the ram slots? I would pull them out, and if the amount of ram you have on boot up dosent change add more ram if you'd like. If the amount of ram dropped stick them back in.

Like pupdug said it's a dummy RDRAM module, unless it has the black DRAM on it. If it's just a blank PCB then it's a dummy...
