a mouse pointer with a mind of its own...

I just finished building my new computer. I purchased a logitech optical wheel mouse. Now when I am doing certain things the pointer for the mouse seems to just take off. These things seem to include downloads, installs, and gaming so far but sense I have had this machine up and running for a hour it could be more then that. Anways, during these certain activities the mouse pointer likes to head up to the very top of the screen whenever I move it. I try to move it down and it goes back up. I can't get the pointer one inch from the top and this is getting rather annoying. I have gotten the latest drivers for the mouse so that is not it. Anyone know what the trouble could be?

Is it hooked up usb or ps/2? Could be a virus or something, run ad aware too.

there's this program that tends to do that to a mouse. could be a prank. i forget what its called
