speaking of mice, I really hope the roofing fixes I got done this year fixed whatever holes mice were able to get through. I had 3 mice in my attic last winter.

I've been wanting to add a mouse trap again but instead of having a camera and checking it I'll set up some electrical contact that triggers an alarm point and sends me an email. I hate to kill cute little rodents, but when they are in my house, that crosses the line between cute, and pest. If it was a squirrel or something I'd live trap it, but mice are next to impossible to catch alive and there's usually more than one.

because why make a new thread?

I bought the biggest AC I could (12k BTU) for the new place. First hot day I fire it up and POP the circuit trips. The thing runs for 5 minutes and trips the breaker every time.

Gotta love old houses. I know its a $5 fix but its such a tease on a hot day to just start getting cool and then lose TV, lights and computer not to mention AC!

Speaking of mice, lately my house cat has been spending some during he night outdoors. Noticed a couple bird feathers and a few juvenile mice bodies around the yard. The other day I opened the front door in the morning and found 2 full size rat carcasses sitting at the bottom of the steps. Interesting this was that one had a mousetrap on it still.

Looks like the neighbor has an infestation problem, probably because he uses the garage as a workshop and almost always has a door to it open 24/7. So the cat is either playing with the dead ones, or picking off those that have been drugged/injured from his prevention techniques.

Does anyone remember the night we had like 30 parodies of this?

Pure gold, I think mine was, "Alex Trebek just popped out of my air conditioner"

IIRC we filled up the whole first page.

Yet another time when the mod probably logged on, saw the mess and ran like hell. The only one that came close was the "dollar" threads. E2 was pissed!

A few vacations were handed out that night... good times. :sneaky:

Much better parodies back then, and that's not just nostalgia talking.

I remember I joined about a month before this thread, it was really active even at night. Nowadays we're lucky to see a post every 30 minutes after the witching hour.

I blame the splitting of the forums. You're right though, it was crazy. You could post a thread and it would be gone off the first page within a minute if nobody bumped it.

The splitting of the forums is half the problem. The other is the traffic really did go down by a huge amount, much of it from the banning of users (this is really noticeable if you look at old threads, sometimes 1/10th of the posters are banned) and some users just moving on in life where they don't have as much time (like yoyo). There's a much lower influx of new members, too, aside from the occasional spammer. I think in part it's due to the PC hardware as a hobby declining, is traditional desktops versus tablets and hybrid laptops.

A lot of the more technical, mobile minded people are probably still finding the site, but I fear the younger generations (now I sound like an old man, though I'm in my 20s :D ) tend to want more casual analysis like what you can get from The Verge and Engadget as opposed to the traditional tech sites like AnandTech and Tom's, though even here the main site is adapting a bit.

Hot Deals really, really dried up here, too. From all the "how did you find AnandTech?" threads you can tell many people found ATOT because of Hot Deals. It's how I discovered this site.

nef is still going. night crew, not so much

I'm pretty sure drunken posts from JohnCU accounted for all night time ATOT posting activity by volume. :D

I can't recall if he was permabanned or just vacationed, and for what.
