Conclusion is that:

Its very OCable. (And when OCed its performance is REALLY fast)
It is slightly faster than the X850XT.
It offers TSAA, Gamma corrected AA.
It offers working pure video which is going to get better through FW85 drivers.
Its S.M 3.0 :)
Its AGP !!!! :D

edit - link fixed, but also im concerned about price.

349$ currently at CompUSA and as low as 339$ on some select sites on the net however NDA hasn't been lifted yet and I expect nothing more than 300$ once its officially released.

it would be awesome if you could open up the pipes...or maybe even flash it to a GT/GTX bios.

they're already selling this at crapusa quietly? weird...

i dont think unlocking pipes would happen as it would cut into their GT/GTX sales

They're differnet markets. The GS is AGP while the GT/GTX is pci-express. I do agree it's probably not unlockable tho.

Interesting how this card isn't on the CompUSA site yet...My local store isn't selling them yet...But they are there in boxes waiting to be put on the shelves...

If these price right, it would make a nice upgrade for one of my AGP rigs. I'm going to need something soon, the kids are starting to hasle me over the new PC :)

Wow that looks really good...

Especially @ AGP. Hopefully it'll be close to $250 after full blown release.

wow it gets better memory than the 7800GT....even a stock 7800GS is treated to 1200mhz mem, while my 7800GTs make do with 1050Mhz.....the 7800GT is hampered by bandwidth imo

Nice card, but for $349 MSRP it has no chance imo. It is faster than X850XT sure, but at 75% higher price, it better be a lot faster than it is. It should cost roughly $249 for it to be competitive. Selling a card slower than $280 7800GT for higher MSRP to AGP crowd is not what the AGP consumer wants.

You can just get $100 DFI 939 Infiniti board and $269 7800GT PCIe. It costs a bit more but you have PCIe upgrade path, 64-bit support, dual-core upgrade path. I am sure AXP3000+ and P4 3.0ghz with mobos can be sold for $75 used. This even eases the upgrade path for AGP users.

This card should have been released 6 months to a year ago for AGP crowd along 7800GT and GTX for PCIe. But apparently management at Nvidia have never taken a strategy course....

Prices could come down with time. It is new and supply may not be up to demand yet. Hopefully it'll drop at least another $100 or so to make it more enticing.

At stock it's not any faster then an overclocked AGP 6800 GS. O/C'ed it's only 1000 points faster. Yea, it is the fastest stock card, ect. But even at 300 (-50$ retail markup) it's still not a good buy at this particular time.

Of course there is a chance you'd get an 6800 that couldn't be o/c OR unlocked. Even so, you talking about only a 1000 point difference between stock cards and a 2000 point difference, (~50%) with an O/C'ed 7800. At which point, the price/FPS ration becomes about equal. At 300$.

I agree with this... I have seen that evga combo still out also, Motherboard and 7800GT for $329... sell your old motherboard and proc on ebay to make up for the difference on the proc you have to buy and for that you atleast open up a lot longer upgrade path. AGP cards are going to bomb in value soon.

This card better go for $220 at most to be worth the loss of value it's gonna take in 4 month's.

The only X850XT you can get for $220 is PCI-E. AGP versions are $350 and up which puts them in the same price range as the 7800GS, which is also AGP.

Makes more sense to compare apples to apples, no?

If they can bring in a GS under $300 it will sell like hot cakes.

Your missing the fact that the AGP X850XT can be had at Microcenter for $250 , plus a $50 rebate, which brings it to $200.

On another note, buying a $350 AGP card (which I don't recommend, X850XT FTW!) is still less on the pocket and less hassle than buying , mobo, CPU, VC and possibly RAM (depending on what you have).

$350 7800GS AGP

or

MOBO $70
CPU- AMD 3200+ $160
VC- 7800GT $280 = $510

If you get a PCIe 6800GS you drop $80 but it makes it more of a sidegrade than an upgrade. So if you go PCIe 6800GS (and all the PCIe upgrade parts) to get the price closer to an AGP 7800GS, you are better off getting an AGP 6800GS for $230 other than spending upwards of $430 for a sidegrade.

Do you PCIe people understand now?

In my case though, I already have an s754 A64 3200, but it's in an agp board. I'm trying to decide between the $200 X850XT AGP, or springing for a s754 pcie board and a 7800GT..

IMO i would get a S754 PCIe board and the $219.00 Sapphire PCIe X850XT at Newegg. That way if you decide to hold on to that unit for a while you could later easily upgrade the PCIe card to a DX10 class SM 3.0 capable card without having to be limited since there is not AsRock ULI board for S754 like there is for S939.
