I've read rumors all over the media about Microsoft announcing a tablet at 3:30pm PST (right now). If any of you find out any info please post it here, it sounds like it will be a cool gadget.

oh shit, the punchline is coming

"Much like Windows 1 needed the mouse, we wanted to give Windows 8 it's own hardware."

"What is it? It's something new. Something different. A whole new family of computing devices from Microsoft."

MS-branded tablet aka "the new Microsoft Surface". Most people guessed this already for the most part.

Talk about a huge amount of hype for an iPad clone, jeez. They're acting like they invented the tablet.

What a ridiculous comment. Should every company stop holding press conferences for any music player, phone, laptop, or tablet in case fanboys like you claim it's a ripoff of the iPod, iPhone, Macbook, or iPad?

Oh, of course, I'm a fanboy. That's funny. Of course they shouldn't stop holding press conferences, but if you are following the conference, the buildup to this thing was ridiculous.

To be honest they did have the vision for a tablet a long time ago but just didn't execute well on the software

That's the blogosphere. MS didnt spit a word on this, people just hyped it themselves.

"We said, why not do something with this surface? We made it a full multitouch keyboard." Whoa, people are hooting.

Well this is interesting.

What was ridiculous about it? Do you mean they took too long for you? They introduced it about 40 mins in I think, after they gave an introduction with the history of MS hardware and some sales number. You know who else does that? Apple. Well them and every other company. You would have been happy with MS if they started at 3:30 PST and said "Here it is - our tablet. Any questions?"

I hope they just make one version that they sell. I don't want the headache of trying to figure out which version to buy if they let OEM's produce a dozen different varieties.

Yes, actually. Cut out the bullshit. Obviously they should detail the specs and what it does.

Now, I'm actually liking the specs of this unit. BUT, it appears to me that they are already hamstringing themselves by announcing two different incompatible models.

The touch/type covers are awesome IMO, I would love one for my android tab and iPad.

The rest is kind of meh so far, however the Intel Surface could be a very compelling laptop replacement for business if the performance is there.

I thought Windows RT was their tablet OS. Why would they have a Windows 8 version. I know 8 works on Tablets but it's really a desktop OS, isn't it? It seems weird to make a Windows 8 version too.

This is actually looking pretty good so far.

I agree, except for the incredible stupidity of two different totally incompatible tablets. What genius thought that up? Why in the hell would you completely split your developer and user bases like that?

Hmmm... I like the idea of the keyboard + case. Unfortunately I would like to use such a thing in a literal laptop way, so without a hinge keeping the screen up I don't see it being possible. It has the stand which is fine for a desk, but on your legs I don't see it working well.

Asus' ultra books and windows tablets look to be the best choice for me still.
