First, I want to say that I have participated in some rather nasty discussion regarding politics around the web. Yes, I got caught up in the "fight for my guy" more than I care to remember. In fact, I made a neagative post just an hour ago on this board! But I'm coming to realize that's not going to help change our country's direction.

But, we have to remember this election was NOT a referendum on Conservatism. We do have to compromise, work with our Democratic brothers and sisters. President Bush does need to carefully analyze some of the major Democratic talking point issues and find ways to use the ideas from both sides further the goals of peace and prosperity. Our diversity really is, and always has been our strength. We need to put aside who's right and who's wrong and see the truth.

As for the Democrats, yes, they are going to attack for a while, but we must try to avoid attacking back. I know if Bush had lost I would be pretty upset right now too.

If anyone cares to comment on this thread, please let them be only positive comments. That doesn't mean you can't disagree, but I'd like to NOT see any bashing.

The Republicans have no need to be bothered with compromise. It's not in their nature.

i think we need to fix the deficit, that should be our absolute #1 priority in my opinion. Obviously it's going to take input from democrats to be able to get that done. Unfortunetly for democrats, republicans increased their majority in the house and senate, and it will be difficult to argue for including democrats in the process b/c they just aren't needed to get things done. That being said, I'd love to see bipartisonship, I think it's best for the country.

No, actually Bush is the uniter, not the divider

There is no need to compromise. They own the Congress, the Judicial branch, and the Presidency.

See how fast that turned ugly? :disgust:

Anyway, I'm not sure what the next four years are gonna bring. Bush can't seek re-election and Cheney already denied that he had any interest, so I worry a bit about the "cowboy" attitude that might take place. But I have no doubt that our system of check and balances and the desire of the GOP to return in another 4 years will both strive to make the next 4 years as beneficial as possible. Naysayers will be sure to respond "yeah, beneficial to the elite, rich, neocon 1%" or something to that effect, but I don't share that view. I'm sure we'll see some good bi-partisan legislature, as well as some from either side based on nothing more than spite. I don't expect any radical changes over the next four years.

It's a done deal they have no reason to comprimise and we have no sympathy coming to us from the rest of the world for the mess we will have to lie in.

people like Darkhawk make me want to say, "screw the dems.. we control the house, the senate, the white house, and soon the supreme court by an overwhelming majority.. we don't have any further interest currently in the administration to further their political career in the white house.. we should do what we want and watch them cry about it..."

However, i agree that diversity is important.. and working together is the only way to re-unite this country.. a strong attack on america by the int'l community over the last year or so has only been possible because of the attack within ourselves.. hopefully we can send a stronger message to the world this next four years sayign that we do support our administration and our congress, rather than indicating to the world that the majority of our country is against everything the administration/congress does, giving the int'l community more fuel to attack us on...

It goes both ways. With Dasshole gone, Democrats have a chance to work cooperativly and Republicans will be more than willing to. I think that's what we'll see if Reed takes over. It was really the Dems who created the division by stonewalling and filibustering.

Your first paragraph just proved my entire point. If they want to go across the aisle, great, let's do it, but not just for show. You guys have had the better part of four years to do so and you haven't. That says something.
