Vincente Fox is taking advantage of the trump trainwreck to increase his own popularity and secure his own power in Mexico. He's more or less guaranteed his own reelection just by disliking Trump. No matter how corrupt or poorly he performs on everything else, he will likely stay in power.

Fox is out of power and is likely to remain so but he is still active on the political scene. That said Trump is indeed an extremely useful foil for politicians of other countries that are center left or hard left. Trump will be a major issue in Mexico's presidential elections next year which spells trouble for the US.

With Trump and Mexico nationalism and the real/perceived failures of the center right are combining to potentially push the left into power. Nieto's weak initial responses did a lot of damage politically.
