HD went south. No warning, windows locked up, I rebooted, no more HD. 🙁

Oh well, it needed a break anyway.

btw, this is a 1ghz P III w/256mb. HD was an IBM 30gig GXP. 🙁

I take it that was an IBM 75GXP?

While they were the tops in speed, they were more likely to break than most other drives. Sorry dude. 🙁 It's probably still under warranty, so call IBM and have them send you a new one ASAP.

I hate it when they do that! :disgust:

I had a BH6RevII go out over a month ago. It was bought new in Jan 01. The dealer called today and said "Solly, no can fixie!" He agreed to let me pick something else and to apply what I paid for the other board to a new one. AMD DDR here I come!! But which one? Guess I've gotta see what he carries. ASUS and Abit is all I know he has for sure.

Ya, my 75gxp or whatever, ibm 46gig started getting bad sectors so I rma'd it

havnt gotten it back yet.

Well, I got another one on the way. Newegg's got the 40gig 60GXP for 108. I just couldn't resist. I'll get an RMA for this one Thurs. In the mean time, maybe I won't fall too far behind. The rest are peddlin' as fast as they can to take up the slack. 😀

JWMiddleton: For AMD DDR motherboards, I recommend the Epox 8K7A. I have this board with an AMD 1.2GHz. and have honestly had zero problems with it. It's got 6 PCI slots, 2 DDR DIMM slots, and that neat "boot code" LED which identifies boot/POST problems on your board. It's based on the AMD 760 chipset, which is the best DDR chipset out for Socket A, IMO. Although, if you want to wait a couple of weeks, you'll probably start to see boards based on the improved KT266 chipset which might outperform current AMD 760-based boards.

If your dealer doesn't carry Epox boards, try a Gigabyte 7-DXR (not a 7-DX) or an Asus A7M266.

Good luck!
Nick
