what's another way to word "a means to an end"? for example: "lying isn't inherently evil; it is simply a means to an end."

Telling a mod to go to heck isn't immoral; Its just a means to a BAN!

"The end justifys the means"

necessary evil?

Eh scratch that, I suppose it would sound dumb to say "lying isn't inherently evil; it is simply a necessary evil."

Alternatively, you could phrase that "lying isn't inherently wrong; it is simply a necessary evil."

"a journey, not a destination" -> analagous to -> "a means to an end"?

A means to an end refers to a way of accomplishing something, usually with an emphasis on the fact that "it" is not a goal.

...it is simply a method for accomplishing a goal.
