The two cats are getting to me.....need to have a better vacuum cleaner in the house. Wife agrees we need to get rid of the antiquated dirt devil.

I want a canister...can't stand those heavy uprights.
What do you guys think of this $700 Miele?

Other more powerful alternatives?

We just got the Bissel Pet hair eraser. Worth every penny, does a great job on the floors and furniture. When I do the entire house (2k sq ft) I have to empty the canister 4 or 5 times because of all the cat hair from just 2 cats.

It's under $200 IIRC, much better value than a Dyson or that thing.

Only downside is it is kind of heavy, around 20 lbs, but not bad.

Get a Rainbow for canisters

If you are spending that kind of money get a Kirby, even though it is an upright

What about those Oreck vacuums? That old Oreck man always makes me want to buy one. He seems so honest.

IIRC, Dyson's are way up there in watts, too. I know I pop circuits occasionally when the vacuum is on.

I have one, light weight, maneuverable, and, "It's so powerful, it can even pick up a bowlingball" BUT IT WON'T PICK UP ANYTHING ELSE!

1200 watts ~ 12 amps...almost all vacuums are 12 amps now days, it's just the suction ability and how they lose motor capacity over time.

I have a dyson and a cheap bissel and it's almost night and day difference.

best thing is i got the dyson for free because the cord was shorting.

10 minutes later good as new ;)

Must be hard dragging that huge hose around the house. It would have to be HUGE to pick up a bowling ball. Even to pick up a duckpin ball would need a huge firehose. Better put away the family cat when you're using that thing. ;)

Have you not seen the commercial? It shows his hand-held doing it.

<---- Looks at address, maybe not

I have a robot that does my vacuuming for me. Actually, a small fleet of them. Thank you Woot.com! :D

1200watts = 10amps at 120volts.

amp x volts = wattage
10 x 120 = 1200

OP check this thread out...

Kinda funny vacuum story.

We just bought a new house in a fairly new master planned community so we get door-to-door salesmen coming by pretty frequently trying to sell everything from water softeners to pest service to alarm monitoring.

Yesterday my wife called me to tell me that a guy came by trying to sell a Kirby vacuum. His pitch was that he was giving these brand new Pyrex baking dishes to the "woman of the house" just for listening to his spiel. So he hands her the dishes and then she proceeds to tell him that it isn't a good time because she works from home (day trading) and one of our kids is sick with strep throat. She asks if he could come back at another time.

He proceeds to say something abrupt and then grabs the Pyrex dishes from her hands and turns around then leaves.

If you are going to spend a lot of money on this sort of thing then get a Roomba. I got a friend with pets that has one and he is asthmatic. He claims it is one of the best purchases he has ever made.

We picked up a Samsung (labelled as a Bissell Butler Revolution) on amazon for $40 a few years ago...works awesome and is quiet. We have mostly tile though. A power head is needed to do carpets.

Miele makes a good vac.
