Using and ASUS A7M266 with (2) Mushkin 512 MB PC2100 modules...

Works great with just one installed - when the second is installed though the system will not boot Windows - just locks up...

I am running the newest BIOS 1004A...

Mushkin says - " USER TIPS: On the A7M266, the VIO1 jumper should be completely removed to lower the memory voltage to the specified 2.5V. Some revisions allow to manually set the voltage to 2.5V, please check the manual. Under Windows98 in a fully configured system, The Mushkin PC2100 DIMMs were running 100% reliable up to 148 MHz front side bus (DRAM bus) frequency. " Which I have done -

Asus says to update the BIOS - DONE - and change the VIO1 jumper to 3-4 - DONE....

Any Ideas!?

Thanks!

MasterQ, VIO1 - take the jumper off and store it. That gets 2.5 volts (lowest you can get using jumper is 2.7v). It also seems to help if VID1 thru VID4 are set to 1.8/1.775 volts location. I've read on forum that 1.85/1.825 is good also, but haven't found it necessary yet. I've also read that the VIO1 is incorrectly labeled in the manual (or wired wrong on the board?), meaning that the lower 2 pins on the board (as installed in a tower) are actually 1-2 (and vice-versa). Hence (according to ASUS), moving jumper to 3-4 gets LOWEST (2.7v) setting, but removing the jumper altogether altogether seems to work best (2.5v). Good luck!
