A loyal member in disgust

I have been a member of Anandtech since 2000, after graduating college. I have participated in some minimal flaming but mostly have been a good member. I have never been banned, and only had my threads locked only due to the posting of others.

I have shared my engagement, my wedding, my surgeries, my problems, my laughs and my cries with the members as a great deal has happened to me over the past 6 years. However, several months ago, the Anandtech Moderators seemed to begin being a bit overly harsh to other loyal members.

One of my AT pals, Warcrow, for some reason drew the ire of the mods and he was temp banned as well as became a target. He was one of the few members who tried to drive traffic in the Software forums and ended up getting so disgusted that he left for a time... I decided to join him as I was also tired of the massive influx of childish antics throughout the forums.

The other day, I came back... starting my post return. Today I had posted two threads... The first was about a bug that I had found and was curious as to what it was. It was a quite interesting looking critter which happened to be floating in my pool. It drew a number of normal posts, some joking about it being an alien, but ultimately one member posted what type of bug it was.

The other thread, about my pool troubles which was accompanied with a photo of the pool... The before and afters were pretty outrageous in my opinion. It also drew some good posts and some helpful advice about my pool liner that one user noticed was pulling off.

Soon after the discovery of what type of bug was in the pool, that thread was deleted completely. The reason given was "two threads about your pool was one too many".

You have GOT to be kidding me. Apparently the mod who deleted the thread didnt even bother reading it... nor did they give a crap that there was a legitimate conversation going on in there.

I was looking forward to posting more here, to see if things had cleaned up, but it looks like the moderators have become overly protective about their precious off topic forums. I may come back to post more in the future, but I doubt I will much as it really offers very little to me anymore and frankly, is just stupid.

Thanks for the great years, but perhaps you should look at your policies if you want to keep good members around.

Thanks,
~Jim

Didn't see your threads, but it could be just a overly-itchy trigger finger on the part of one of the mods. I don't think that happens often, though.

I wouldn't make too many assumptions based on one occurrence, even if it was right after your return. Could have been a lousy coincidence.

It's possible that it was just a coincidence, but it was completely uncalled for.

Yeah, that's a lame reason for a thread delete. I recall that thread too from earlier today.

Anyway, isn't OT and P&N just supposed to be overflow cesspools for the hardware forums anyway? Naturally there would be pool related threads if this is a cesspool...

We need more threads like those that actually have content. So many of the new ones are just BS that doesn't need to be posted, and should be locked.

That was freaking ridiculous. 2 perfectly legitimate threads, one deleted. Yet certain members  continue to post their pointless idiocy repeatedly.

Get over it. Compared to the other changes, this is nothing to cry about.

QFT. I think you're taking this too personally.

The bug thread was pretty useless, but the pool thread was definitely worth the pics. In either case, much worse has been posted here before. Good luck to you.

yeap.

many tried to ask about such BS in the "change of culture" thread and got banned for it. yet the same crap continues to happen.

ATOT is a great place for finding useless information. such as what mobed asked about the bug. usually someone knows the weird infromation (one of the reasons i love ATOT heh).

there are so many diffrent types of people that you can find out anything. someone here will know something about anything.

The moderators here are known to be overzealous. Punishments are not equally applied and seem to be entirely random.

There wasn't a problem about him asking about the bug, but it was two pool related threads.

I manage a team of forum moderators over at another forum and I can still find it difficult to apply the same rules to different situations, and I have such a smaller user-base. It's hard to make a split-second decision about something, especially when there's 10+ other people who have to make a decision aswell. They can't sit around and talk about each thing every time, it's not efficient.

Yeah, strangely I was the first to pick it, and pretty much the only one to use it.
