yes hard to believe. I didn't expect to see many girls in my CS course at all. A number of them do CS with mangement and other subjects but they do at least 75% CS courses though.

Most seem to do it as they want to do *graphics* and *cool* things. Guess they didn't read too much in to that its mostly programming.......

Saw a guy sleeping TOTALLY knocked out in Computer Systems class. Saw my friend totally knocked out also, another one falling asleep. Both girls...

Most of the girls don't pay attention or just write notes to each other and dont' understand why they don't get it. Just puzzles me.......

Oh well its up to them.

You'll be hearing a lot of help from me!!! Hopefully not too much.......

I've known such girls in CS...meh...wait till the programming assignments come up...they'll just spend their time trying to convince some dude to help them out. And of course his geeky, virgin ass will "help" them by doing the entire assignment or giving them his code.

About 1/3 of the people in my CS classes here are women.

ditto.

I was just suprised to see many girls on a course such as CS at my Uni thats all. Thats the point of this thread.

And that they mostly well the 6 that are in my group of friends seemed not so interested in the programming but the programming is a corse aspect of the degree. That was just a bit strange to me, that they'd do a degree with the core on something that they didn't seem interested in or wouldn't bother to pay attention in class. Sleeping in class doesn't show paying attention to me. I'm not talking about an early class. This class was at 3pm.

I'd be pimping on them also if I hadn't got a great girlfriend already.

I'm not so bothered about helping the girls that already are my friends and we hang out. But trust me I'm not going to bother helping other people that aren't my friends. Its just BS for them to ask for my code or help when I am already busy with my own work and they are just using me.

I can definately see the work get much harder.

I'll be probably requesting help this weekend!

Klah the girls will be here for the 3 year degree unless they stop or change to another degree or start again. I'm in England so its a bit different.

I'm in England and the system works differently here. You choose what degree and stick to it. There is not much in the choice of changing your degree in England. We don't do any *electives*. We just do everything to do with the degree that you have chosen.

I KNOW they'll be here for the full 3 years if they pass each year. If they dont' they repeat exams and if they fail then they are talked to and if they are simply not *good* enough they'll be kicked out of the Uni for not doing what is expected of them.

So assuming everyone even the guys and girls pass they'll be here for a minimum of 3 years. More if they do a Masters or do a year abroad or industry......

I have no idea what the percentage of girls in my first two, and only two, CS classes were, but it was pretty low, wouldn't you say Zakath15? Then again I had a few in my section, about 5 out of 15, so that is pretty good I guess.

GIVE ME A BREAK.

i see GUYS all the time sleeping in class, struggling with understanding how to program, or even asking a GIRL for help.

It's just not a girl thing and not ALL girls are like that. And you can bet the ones that DO stick around after sophomore year can surely program you into the ground. :p We'll be the ones offering your sorry arse help, not the other way around.

haha. let me just add ONE thing, HOW many guys majoring in CS think/want to go into the game programming business? How may actually ever make it there? We dont' even learn game programming in CS (at least at my school) but some guys who go into it think they are majoring in CS because once they know C they can start making games easy and some gaming company is gonna pick them up like that when in reality 90% will be stuck in a cubicle with a really "uncool" coding job.

girls aren't the only ones with illusions about the major.

And BTW, CS isn't all about "programming". It wasn't even half of the classes, at least not mine at UCLA.

I don't think anyone said all girls. The second part of your post is really ironic, too.
Even if it is a joke. :p

So you're somehow surprised that you found people in your classes to be sleeping? This horrible new cancer to society must be stopped! No one ever sleeps during classes!

Well I was suprised to see people starting it for a degree.

I'm in England and the degrees work out differently. Here the programming is a major aspect of the CS degree. We DON'T do ANY *ELECTIVES*. We focus on the part and everything is based on the degree. We do 4 units in a semester and 3 semester but the last semester is for exams.

Main thing of the topic here was that I was suprised to see so many girls in my CS class....
They'll be slackers so people will be sleep both guys and girls. I tend to blieve more guys will slack then the girls though. As shown when I saw a group of guys leave before the 2nd follow on lecture......

No one said CS is all programming. The first few lower division classes are programming, but once you get into upper division courses, it's all theory and algorithms analysis. And not all CS majors think/want to go into game programming business like you said. Maybe true at your school, but not most schools. Heck, I am an avid gamer but I didn't go into the game programming business and never intended to.
