A Little XP Help Please....

There are two sizable files in my Windows XP install directory that are eating up alot of space. My question to you is do I need these files? They are both located in my D: partition's root directory, not under Windows. The two files are..

1. hiberfil.sys and is 524Mb in size.
2. PAGEFILE.SYS and is 787Mb in size. I didn't allocate enough space on my D: for all this extra data I have seemed to accumulate (especially these two mystery files).

I would appreciate your direction on this. Thanks.

hiberfil.sys is used for hibernation. If you turn of hibernation support (control panel/power), this file should disappear. It's the size of your RAM.

pagefile.sys is the pagefile. You need this. You can change this in your system control panel - specify which disks it should use, etc. But bottom line is you need this somewhere.

i understand it's ok to clean out the page file once in a while, like the temp file. it will just refill it's self as need be.
sound right to everyone ?

Like Miquel says, you can get rid of hiberfil.sys by turning off hibernation support in control panel/power/hibernation.

Don't delete pagefile.sys, just change the size and location.

Right click on My Computer/Properties/Advanced Tab/Performance/Settings/Advanced/Virtual memory Change (at the bottom of the page).

You can then create a page file on C: (where I assume you have more space), and set no paging file on D:.
